The Sinkhole is an area where Captain Dread (or a least the ghost of) and his crew reside. Its plays a big part in the Treasure Island of Doom! quest, it is also where the ship of Captain Dread , The Marianne, is docked. After you pull a lever to raise the water level, the cave is more or less inaccessible as the hero can't swim underwater but this however makes it possible to get a silver key which was impossible to get to before.
